The Ridge Forest HOA website is provided as a resource for residents with information about our community and the homeowners association. Here you will find HOA documents, board contact information, archives of newsletters, and news about events and issues from the county and state that may effect our community.
Ridge Forest is a quiet community of 110 single family homes nestled along the I-295 corridor midway between Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C. It is conveniently located just south of BWI airport and near the major roadways I-95, I-97, and MD Route 100.
The Board of Directors conducted a survey of homeowners regarding the support or opposition to the proposed slot casino at Arundel Mills Mall. The results of the survey indicated that the majority of Ridge Forest homeowners were opposed to the mall as a location for the casino. As a result of the survey, the Board of Directors has joined in with other communities in our area in active opposition to the Anne Arundel County Council's proposed bill to change the zoning to allow the casino to be built. The County Executive, John Leopold, has legislation ready for consideration to allow the casino, but so far the Council has not done so. Several votes on the matter have been delayed since March. The most recent delay was a result of Mr. Leopold's desire to withdraw the proposed zoning bills when a vacancy on the council appeared to make it clear that the proposals did not have enough support to pass. That vacancy has now been filled by Councilwoman Tricia Johnson (RDavidsonville) who has indicated that she would approve a casino if the proper community safeguards were in place.
The Board finds it disconcerting to have people from all over the County telling us to live next to a casino. No doubt, many individuals supported the original slot referendum assuming that the casinos would be built at the race courses in Maryland (such as Laurel Park) and not in the middle of a highly populated family area. The Board finds that the State and County Council's arguments for a safe casino in the midst of this area to be unsupportable. The issue is not currently on the September calendar for the county council. You can personally let your opinion be known by participating in the September 9th public hearing or by writing/emailing our state and county elected officials.
